Winds and Percussion

         

French Horn

         The contestant must select one of the following:

 

Benjamin Britten  

Serenade
 

Ludwig Van Beethoven 

Sonata Op. 17 (1st movt)
 

Johannes Brahms  

Scherzo
 

Wolfgang Mozart  

Concerto #2 (1st,2nd, or 3rd movement)
 

George F. Handel

Sonata (all movements)
 

Johann Strauss   

Concertos # 1 or #2 (first movement)
 

Scott Richards  

Bella Gitana (Solid Brass Music Company)
  Carl Hohne   Slavonic Fantasy (Solid Brass Music Company)           
 

The contestant must select one of the following by an African American composer:

 

Leslie Adams  

Horn Sonata (2nd & 3rd movts., 3/4movts., or  2/4 mvts.) Available from henrycarlmusic@lycos.com  and creativeartsinc@webtv.net
 

Adolphus Hailstork

Sonata (1st movement or 2nd/3rd movements)
 

Frederick Tillis 

Spiritual Fantasy #5 (American Composer Alliance)
 

Justin Tamusuza  

Okukoowoola Kw’Ekkondeere (Horn Call) International Opus
 

The Contestant on all three levels (Local, Regional, and National) must submit three copies of each of the two compositions to the performed with measures numbered consecutively from beginning to end.(one must be an original and the other two may be copies)  Memorization on all three levels is REQUIRED.  Contestants will be judged on the following areas:

 

Tone Quality

Technical Proficiency

Musical Accuracy

Intonation

Memorization

Interpretation

 
 

A composite score will be give to each contestant for the entire performance.  The scoring range is the following:

 

30-26              Superior

21-25              Excellent

16-20               Good

11-15               Fair
