The Rhythm of Resilience: Amplifying Legacy, Inspiring the Future

Celebrating the resilience of African and Black American musical traditions that magnifies the power of wind and percussion instruments in our classical heritage.

We Want Your Voice!

July 18-23, 2026 (date includes pre- and post-convention workshops)

 

The National Association of Negro Musicians invites educators, performers, scholars, and cultural advocates to submit workshop proposals for our 2026 Convention. We seek dynamic presentations that advance Black music traditions and strengthen our community of musicians.

 

Workshop Formats Available:

  • In-Person Workshops (July 18-21, 2026)

  • Virtual Workshops (pre-recorded; available to participants before, during, and after the convention)

 

Topics We're Looking For:

Workshop proposals should address subjects that advance Black music education, performance, scholarship, and cultural preservation. Areas of interest include but are not limited to:

  • Pedagogical approaches to African and Black American music

  • Wind and percussion traditions in Black classical music

  • Historical perspectives and contemporary innovations

  • Performance techniques and repertoire development

  • Community engagement and cultural advocacy

  • Music technology and accessibility

 

Important Details:

  • Selected in-person presenters must pay convention registration rates

  • Virtual workshops must be submitted as pre-recorded presentations

  • All workshops are being considered for NANM Institute continuing education credits (accreditation in progress)

 

Submission Deadline: January 31, 2026 - Accepted presenters/workshop sessions will be notified on or before February 28, 2026.
