Assistant Professor of Music (Seton Hill University)


Seton Hill University invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Music position, beginning in August 2024.


Responsibilities include teaching fundamental musicianship courses, teaching in the applied area with an emphasis in woodwinds or strings. Additional coursework may include instrumental ensemble conducting, methods and techniques courses, or other coursework as determined by the qualifications of the candidate and the needs of the department.


Requirements include a DMA , DA, or Ph.D, with consideration given to a candidate with an MM/MFA by the start date of the position. Demonstrated success in teaching K-12, collegiate level, or both. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate innovative and creative approaches to music making, pedagogy, and leadership. An interest in recruitment, especially attracting and retaining students from underrepresented groups, is desirable. Candidates should be committed to teaching within the context of a liberal arts education and to developing relationships with area music educators.


Application materials should include a cover letter in which the candidate addresses how their teaching will contribute to an inclusive classroom, curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, description of creative focus and work, transcripts (copies acceptable for application). Three professional references or three current letters of reference at the time of application. Of these three references or letters, at least one should address the candidate's disciplinary expertise and at least one should have observed the candidate deliver or design classroom instruction. References will be contacted only for candidates who advance to the finalist interviews.
