Choral Director (Jones High School)

The Jones High School Choral Director will lead and develop a dynamic choral music program that inspires, empowers, and uplifts students through music education and performance. This position serves a diverse, urban student population and seeks to use choral music as a tool for artistic expression, cultural connection, and personal growth. The Choral Director will foster musical excellence while creating an inclusive and supportive classroom environment where all students can find their voice.


Instructional Duties

  • Teach a full range of choral music classes (e.g., Beginning Choir, Concert Choir, Advanced Ensemble, Vocal Techniques).

  • Teach beginning and intermediate class piano.

  • Develop and implement a curriculum aligned with state and national music education standards.

  • Teach vocal technique, sight-singing, music theory, and performance practices appropriate for various skill levels.

  • Prepare students for school concerts, community performances, festivals, All-County performances, District and State

  • Ensemble and Choral Music Performance Assessment.

  • Incorporate diverse musical genres, styles, and cultures, including Gospel, Classical, and Contemporary, to reflect and celebrate the school’s community.


Administrative and Professional Duties

  • Organize and supervise rehearsals, performances, auditions, and travel logistics for concerts and events.

  • Often requires after-school, evening, weekend performances and/or rehearsals.

  • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and program records.

  • Manage the choral budget, equipment, uniforms, and sheet music library.

  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives.

  • Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and community stakeholders.

  • Build and sustain a choral program that attracts and retains a broad range of students.


Education & Certification

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

  • Certification or eligible for certification by the Florida State Department of Education to teach in the State of Florida.

  • Valid State of Florida Teaching Certification in Music (Choral/Vocal).

  • Piano proficiency and strong conducting skills required.


Experience & Skills

  • Successful experience teaching or directing choral ensembles.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and linguistic backgrounds.

  • Strong classroom management skills and a commitment to equitable, student-centered teaching.

  • Experience arranging or selecting repertoire suitable for varying skill levels.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
