Applied Flute (Tenure-Track, Assistant Professor) (Central Michigan University)

Position Summary

  • Recruit and retain high-quality applied flute students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

  • Pursue scholarly and creative activity that meets CMU standards for tenure and promotion.

  • Teach courses in flute techniques, coach chamber ensembles, flute repertoire, and other courses relevant to qualifications.

  • Perform with the faculty Woodwind Quintet – the “Powers Quintet.”

  • Serve on departmental, collegiate, and professional committees.

  • Additional duties may be assigned in accordance with areas of expertise and in consultation with the Director of the School of Music.


Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate in flute performance (ABD candidates may be considered, provided the degree is conferred by the start date of the appointment), or commensurate professional experience.

  • Outstanding performance skills as soloist and chamber musician.

  • Successful college teaching experience.

  • Ability to teach and collaborate within the field of Woodwind Pedagogy.

  • Ability to teach courses in flute techniques for music majors, or survey courses of varying genres, including popular and non-Western music.

  • Work Sample - single document listing direct online links of up to four video recordings created within the last three years. Links should include at least three solo recordings of different works made within the last three years, preferably live concert performances or unedited recordings. A minimum of one must contain video, and one may be of a chamber performance.

  • List of References - contact information for at least three references who may be contacted and/or asked to submit a letter of recommendation.
